Free tax filing help available to residents living with low income

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region residents who experience economic hardship, unemployment, or who have no income, can get help with filing their taxes for free. Through tax filing, eligible residents can access benefits and credits that would put money in their pockets and help cover basic needs. There are more than 40 benefits and credits in Ontario; many can only be accessed when you file your taxes.

Crossrides allow cyclists to cross the street without dismounting

As part of Durham Vision Zero, crossrides have been installed along multi-use path routes at intersections throughout the region.
A crossride is a dedicated space at an intersection where cyclists can legally ride their bicycle through the intersection without dismounting. Crossrides are identified by unique pavement markings and may be located beside a pedestrian crosswalk or on its own. Crossrides can be combined with a crosswalk to save space, which is called a mixed crossride.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of a lane closure on Winchester Road in the Town of Whitby.
Where: The eastbound lane of Winchester Road will be closed, from Durham Street/Chelmsford Drive to east of Watford Street/Anderson Street, in Whitby.

Whitby, Ontario – May 4 to 10 is Emergency Preparedness Week and Durham Region Health Department is reminding all residents and businesses within 10 kilometres of the Pickering or Darlington nuclear generating stations to have a supply of potassium iodide (KI) pills on hand as a preparedness measure. This recommendation is also aimed at pregnant and breastfeeding individuals, as well as parents of infants, children and adolescents as KI is both safe and most effective for these groups.
